Turtle Releasing Festival
The Turtle Releasing Festival is held every year during Songkran. Turtle eggs are collected by the Fisheries Department in an effort to conserve the numbers of sea turtles. The baby turtles are released into the sea on Nai Yang beach.
The Turtle Release Festival takes place at Nai Yang Beach every year on 13 April, which coincides with National Fish Species Multiplication Day and Songkran Day. Its objective is to release young sea turtles at different locations into their habitats in the sea in an effort to increase the population of these creatures which has been rapidly diminishing. Generally, Songkran Day has been observed by Thais as a day to let free birds, fishes, tortoises and turtles, so the date is considered most appropriate.
